Matt Goerzen

Matt Goerzen over the past few years has mainly focused on a private investigation of anonymity in artistic contexts, specifically the way unclaimed or falsely attributed authorship might modulate the reception and evaluation of work in both art historical and economic settings. In 2013 he plans to move away from this full blown anonymity, replacing it with a single-blind position wherein dubious acts of public kindness will appear anonymous except to an "art world" audience of collectors, curators, colleagues and knowing exhibition attendees. His aim is to sublate moral and aesthetic evaluations into a single act, and, in so doing, reveal emergent gradients through which cultural production is appropriated simultaneously by the artistic elite from the design and advertising mainstream, and vice versa. Goerzen grew up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, studied in Ottawa and Montreal and currently resides in Berlin, Germany.
