THE SELF-PORTRAIT
Grades 5 - 8

  Lise Beaudry, Kytes Workshop, 2001

Students explore photography, representation and portraiture through this workshop. Using colour film, students are given the opportunity to create self-portraits as well as portraits of other classmates. While the negatives are being printed, the students will create an accordion-style book to hold the photographs of themselves. The photos are placed in the book in a sequence that reflects which image represents them the most to the one they feel represents them the least. Discussions of symbolism, composition, and representation will be encouraged throughout the class.
