Alone, a two-gallery exhibition taking place at Gallery 44 and Gallery TPW, interweaves the work of photographers exploring questions of collective, cultural, and/or gender identity. The subjects of these photographs (sometimes the artists themselves) attempt to grapple with their individual locations within culture through various private explorations.

Penny Cousineau-Levine is the author of Faking Death. Canadian Art Photography and the Canadian Imagination, published in 2003. Her writing on photography has appeared in numerous periodicals and museum catalogues. She has taught at Montreal’s Concordia University and the University of Ottawa, where she is currently the Chair of the Department of Visual Arts. She recently co-curated an exhibition of the work of fifty-eight Canadian photographers at the Jack Shainman Gallery in New York.
