Exhibitions 1999 - 2000 May 4 - June 3, 2000 Moving Stills Donigan Cumming Scott McLeod, curator Produced in association with V TAPE
Moving Stills is an exhibition consisting of three video installation pieces which extend Cumming's engagement with notions of "categorical confusion" and transgression. Karaoke, one of the three works exhibited, is a single-shot video of approximately two-minutes duration which focuses on an ailing, elderly man as he listens to the recording of a popular French tune. His agitation is alleviated with the introduction of the music and, as the camera roves down his body, it reveals, at the conclusion of the tape, his foot vigorously tapping in time to the music. Like much of Cumming's recent installation work, this exhibition will elide the categories of photography and video, documentary and narrative.
