Working collaboratively
with artists, writers, and performers, Baturin constructs portraits which
explore the theme of hope. Composed of one or more portraits along with
a textual element written by each of his subjects, Baturin seeks to find
the best visual form to represent the personality of the sitter. As a
result, the work takes on a broad range of formal presentations, obviously
belonging to the artist’s vocabulary but strongly suggesting a shared
process. Together these portraits offer a spectrum of testimonies to the
power of the human will to overcome suffering and adversity.
