reflection upon river rock (Blue Nordic)
Jan 8 - Feb 7
Hannah Claus

Opening Reception Jan 8, 6-8 pm

This isn’t just about meditation and beauty. It began with a drip in the sink: an irritating sound, a slightly intriguing sound, but one that you simply want to turn off in the end. Appearances can be deceiving. You make do with what you’ve got: the drip that won’t stop as it’s from a washerless faucet and the rock that is not found in a river but was purchased at a garden centre. What residue from the past comes through in the present, in the space of dishes, drips, sinks and stones? Sometimes it is located where you least expect it – it’s not a big deal.

Hannah Claus’ installations explore the transient nature of memory and the complexities of postcolonial relationships. Her most recent installation pine was exhibited at Gallery 101 in Ottawa and at Gallery Connexion in New Brunswick. She lives in Montreal where she is completing her MFA at Concordia University.
