Opening Reception Feb 12, 6-8 pm

These subjects, looking at their own reflections in the mirror, were photographed over a period of three years in various situations. Each sitter has composed him/herself for their ‘portrait.’ The camera captures what is normally a private moment spent before the mirror, ‘putting on’ the face we present to the world. The presence of the photographer adds an additional gaze to the equation: The subjects see themselves being seen, and are seen (by the photographer and by the viewer) looking at their own images. One hundred fourty-four of these portraits are reproduced, one per page, in an artist's book of the same title.
