Turning traditional photographic landscape representations literally upside down, Liu isolates views and places them strategically in the exhibition space. Liu writes that such a practice “is my attempt to find a sense of stability, and a sense of belonging.”

Crystal Liu is a multimedia artist, born in Toronto in 1980.Following the completion of her undergraduate studies at the Ontario College of Art (2003), Liu moved to California and obtained her MFA at the San Francisco Art Institute. In addition to exhibitions in Toronto, her photographic work, video, installation, and drawings have been exhibited in Poland, Prague, and cities in the U.S. Crystal’s work is presented courtesy of the Leo Kamen Gallery, Toronto.
