Guilherme Maranhão, Plural III, 2002

What draws me to art is dealing with losses. People go away, pass away or move away. Methods and processes get forgotten because they age and become less profitable. Materials become part of a city’s garbage because some label says they have expired. I need to fight this, with art.

Recycling is a concept that carries all this within, this fight for life. No end, no beginning, all we need is energy to use up the resources that already exist, turn them into a more friendly product, something that may be brought back into this system later again.

Bio: Guilherme Maranhão

Guilherme Maranhão was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and currently lives in Kitchener, Ontario. He loves the famous saying "just do it" and uses it with enthusiasm. Creating large-scale photographs could be a costly venture, but by breathing life back into discarded photo supplies, equipment, and materials, he just does it.
