Work Through an examination of identity and self-representation, Juliana Schewe offers herself as a subject in her work. Making black and white photographs using the mirror as a metaphor for self reflection, the artist explores various facets of herself as revealed in physical and psychological realms. Schewe produced this work under the auspices of the Verant Richards Scholarship, which was established in memory of founding member, Verant Richards. Each year Gallery 44 awards a graduating student of the Ontario College of Art and Design with the Verant Richards scholarship providing a years free access to Gallery 44s production facilities, and $500 for materials. Selected by a jury composed of OCAD instructors and a member of Gallery 44, the recipient is chosen on the strength of their work and their commitment to working in black and white photography.
