Stacey
Tyrel,
Untitled from the series Back Home 2003
"Back Home" is a concept that brings to mind
either an allegiance or a struggle. Though a part of me is rooted in its
soil and spoken through its ritual, my family images of home do not feel
whole. There will always be a lingering sense of mystery veiled by my
lack of first hand knowledge. In this body of work, I have photographed
the space within a space, thereby enabling me to form my own narratives
and create new details. "Back Home" then becomes a familiar
environment in which I am able to blend and explore.
Stacey Tyrell lives in Toronto and is a recent graduate of the
Ontario College of Art and Design where she majored in photography. Her
work has been exhibited in various venues, including the Canadian Ministry
of Heritage and has appeared in Applied Arts and Prefix Photo
magazines. She is the 2002 recipient of Gallery 44s Verant Richards
Scholarship.
