Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen

Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen is an artist and professor born in Manila, Philippines and based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her performance-based practice merges the body, costume, scripted text, music, video, photography and sculpture. She gathers, adapts, and universalizes her narratives in both a critical and humorous approach, highlighting issues surrounding identity, culture, religion, and gender. Cuenca’s performance work examines her own cultural heritage, her role as a contemporary female artist, and womens’ roles in art history.

Cuenca is the recipient of several grants and prizes, such as the Carl Nielsen & Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen grant, The Arken prize, The Eckersberg Medal of Honor, The Danish Art Prize, Aschehoug. In 2009 she was selected as artist-in-residence at The International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP)in New York City.

Her work has been presented+performed in numerous festivals such as Speech Matters, The Danish Pavillion Venice Biennale; Performa09, New York City; Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin; Global Feminisms, Brooklyn Museum; A Tale of Two Cities, Busan Bienale; LASTWINTERSPRINGNEVERCAME, Platform Garanti Contemporary Art Center, Istanbul; Ars 01, KIASMA, Helsinki.
