A new 8-week conceptual and professional development course, including portfolio reviews and a final exhibition.

Participants of this portfolio development course receive instruction on developing a cohesive body of work and writing an artist bio, cv and statement for presentation and professional review. The course will include short lectures and discussions, group critiques, intimate artist talks, private exhibition tours at a variety of gallery spaces, and portfolio reviews from professionals in the Toronto arts community. The work of the participants will be presented in a 3-month exhibition in Gallery 44’s Production Gallery space. It is a great opportunity for emerging artists to push the boundaries of their practice and build connections in the Toronto art community.

Applicants should submit 5-10 images along with a bio, cv or artist statement to darren at gallery44.org. Application deadline: April 17th.

Darren Rigo is a Toronto-based artist who creates work inspired by the absurdity of everyday life. His practice is built upon his experiences growing up in a rural landscape and an interest in the endlessly evolving nature of imags. He received a BFA from OCAD University where he majored in photography. Recent solo exhibitions include The Woods at Harcourt House, Edmonton, and a funny thing at Harbourfront Center, Toronto. His work has been commissioned by SickKids Hospital, Harbourfront Centre and Plazacorp Investments and is included in the collections of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, Fredericton and the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts, Japan.
