‘The text you write must prove to me that it desires me’ – Roland Barthes

This course is designed for artists, writers & curators wishing to strengthen their creative approach to writing about art, and/or writing for artists, and/or writing as artists. The workshop operates on the genuine belief that writing can enrich the experience of seeing, interpreting, and connecting with art.  If we approach art-writing in a similar way to art-making we will never produce another boring review or overly didactic exhibition statement, instead, we will learn to look at writing as a valuable companion to art.

The goal for this workshop is to find a creative and personal approach to writing about art in a clear and concise manner by expanding students’ definition of what art-writing is or can be, and introducing them to a variety of approaches including genre-bending and collaboration.

Participants must register at least 3 business days prior to the workshop date.
