$ 60.00 CAD

In this classroom based workshop, Gallery 44's Members' Gallery artist-in-residence Nathan Cyprys will teach the basics of astrophotography, illustrating this discussion with historical images as well as those from his current exhibition, Cosmichronos. Participants will be taught methods using an analogue SLR camera, tripod and equatorial mount (available on loan from the RASC). By the end of the workshop, participants will be familiar with a variety of astronomical resources necessary for planning a night of shooting, and an understanding of what's needed to produce a well exposed negative with pinpoint stars.

It is recommended students dress warmly since part of the class will take place outdoors if skies are clear.
In order to benefit from this workshop participants should already possess a basic understanding of the manual functions of their SLR camera.

Nathan Cyprys is an award-winning artist & photographer based in Toronto, Canada who holds a BFA in Photography from the Ontario College of Art & Design. His art practice is both conceptual and documentary based in approach, ranging from capturing landscapes of the United States on a large format camera, to shooting portraiture and still-life in a studio environment. Cyprys' work has been featured by The Washington Post, American Photography, VICE, Flash Forward, and Blackflash Magazine.
