Discover the wonder of Instant Photography with Merlin, a collector and lover of Polaroid Instant film cameras, as he discusses different formats of this semi-extinct technology, and his creative practice. Learn how this magical medium came into existence, and experience some of the quirky cameras Polaroid produced in its time, which we will have on hand for you to check out.
Each participant will be provided with a Polaroid camera and film to experiment with on a walk through the streets of Chinatown and Kensington Market. During the photo walk, participants will discuss instant photography and its future in our digital world.
All of the photos taken on the photo walk are for participants to keep, and at the end of the adventure, participants’ portraits will be taken on the rarest of instant films: Pack Film on a large format camera.
Please note that COVID-19 related safety measures will be in effect, including the mandatory masking of all participants*, an effort to remain 6ft away from each other throughout the walk and photography exercises, sanitary precautions that include wearing gloves when handling equipment and wiping down exchanged camera's with alcohol wipes. If you have questions or concerns, kindly e-mail Leila Fatemi, Curator of Education and Community Outreach at lfatemi@gallery44.org.
*Participants who are not feeling well prior to the workshop are urged to stay home, refunds will be issued for anyone unable to attend due to being unwell.
