In this workshop participants will come together with artist Erika DeFreitas to discuss some of the relationships between gesture, the body, and the photograph. DeFreitas will begin with a short artist talk where she will introduce her work and highlight her use of gesture within her practice, she will address key components of her process, and share sources of inspiration – both written and visual. The purpose of this workshop is to provide a safe space to have open and generous conversation in a critique style. Participants are invited to share a work in process and receive feedback from those in attendance, or they may choose to share an image or text that influences their thinking on the use of gesture and the body in their artistic practice.
