For this member’s workshop, Heather Rigg, Gallery 44’s Curator of Exhibitions + Public Programs, will discuss her approach to curating within various contexts. This includes the traditional white cube gallery space, billboards, artist-run centres, and her practice as part of the curatorial collective ma ma. Topics of discussion will explore decentring the white colonial history of photography, intersectionality, materiality, and the concept of a transformative gesture. This will be followed by a discussion of the assigned reading, Exactly Nothing by Luther Konadu.
The second half of the workshop will focus on the submission process. Participants can ask questions about submitting their work to various open calls, and for advice on putting together an exhibition proposal.
*Please note that this workshop is now full.
