As a medium with its foundations firmly entrenched in statements of truth, in todays contemporary context whether or not truth still exists or has ever really existed in photography is a hotly contested topic. While this tradition of truth within the medium is still highly revered today and used for journalistic, documentary, explorative, and scientific purposes, it is at the same time called into question by many contemporary practitioners through revision and re-contextualization of the archive, departure from didactic representation, and uses of new technologies to break indexicality. Led by Jonathan Groeneweg, this discussion of Photography and Truth is the topic for our next Talking Photography session on April 1, 6:30pm.
