Drawing on the related techniques of lumen printing and chemigrams, learn how to make painterly, cameraless photographs using light, chemistry and silver-gelatin paper. The workshop will use both traditional and plant-based photographic chemistry, along with a variety of simple tools and materials for mark-making, to create tactile, experimental images that blur the line between painting and photography.
No previous experience is required. All materials will be provided—participants are welcome to bring any expired or fogged photo papers.

Surface Tensions: Gestures on the Photographic Image
This three-part workshop series introduces a unique method of working across mediums—from painting directly onto photographic prints, to drawing with light on light-sensitive materials, to using chemistry to paint on negatives. Engage with image-making as a layered, tactile process, expanding photography beyond the frame into the realm of physical intervention and encouraging experimentation and cross-disciplinary play.
