NEW! RGB is not a Colour Space

Andrew Hunter

This clinic, entitled "RGB is not a colour space", will teach participants fundamentals of colour management for screen-based and digitally intermediated print workflows. Participants will cover fundamental colour management theory, differences between types of calibration hardware and their applications, demonstrate the process of calibrating and characterizing a display, setup of colour management within Adobe Photoshop, and outputting files for both print and web display.

Accurate colour management is important for consistency between displays and soft-proofing photos before they are printed, reducing surprises and expensive re-prints.

Andrew Hunter has worked in the motion picture industry for the last ten years as a camera assistant for broadcast television and has extensive experience with colour management for cinema, stills and print.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops or external displays. For as much as time will allow, participants can have a calibration matrix created, allowing them to calibrate and characterize their own displays with the G44 colorimeter.

Andrew Hunter is a Toronto-based Canadian artist working in lens-based visual mediums. Hunter has a keen interest in the changing forms of the built environments of the modern city and it’s interplay with the human element that inhabits it. Hunter graduated from York University’s esteemed BFA in Film Production in 2010.

Gallery 44 acknowledges that it is situated on stolen land. We work and create on the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee, the Anishinaabe, the Wendat and the Mississaugas of the Credit. This land is home to many First Nations, Inuit and Métis and is protected by the Dish with One Spoon wampum agreement—a treaty that extends to Indigenous and non-Indigenous relations and invites us to share the land peacefully through mutual cooperation. Gallery 44 is inspired by the spirit of this agreement and through our work, seeks to share space and build equitable and reciprocal relationships across communities. Read More
