Artist-in-Residence Jordan King will present a performance titled Sleep on Wednesday, November 19, 6:00–8:00PM.
Developed through research undertaken during spring 2025 with support from York University’s Creative Entanglement Collaboratory, Sleep is an embodied performance representing The Sleeping Hermaphroditus—an ancient Roman statue of the Greek god, discovered in the 17th century and thought to be produced in the 2nd century. Two versions are presently displayed in museums, one in marble at the Louvre in Paris and a bronze recreation at the Museo del Prado in Madrid, completed in 1652.
Remnants of the performance will remain on display in the Main Gallery on Thursday, November 20, and Friday, November 21, during gallery hours.
Sleep is a prelude to Double Negative, King's exhibition in the Vitrines on view from November 28, 2025 — January 31, 2026.
