Grad School Applications

June Pak

This workshop is designed to guide and outline the basic requirements of Graduate Schools in Fine Arts/Visual Arts in various Canadian post-secondary institutions. As one of the key components in the grad application is your visual support material, the workshop will focus on how to compile visual documentation in order to prepare comprehensive and focused visual representation of participants’ art practices. In addition, instructor June Pak will discuss some of the necessary elements in writing a concise letter of intent.

This workshop will be a great opportunity for participants to share information on different graduate schools. Prior to attending the workshop, participants should make sure to do some research on the schools that they are interested in, such as articulating what they are looking for in a graduate program, and why they are interested in that particular program.

Things to bring:

- Participants are encouraged to bring a draft copy of their letter of intent (this could be in point form as well).

- Digital versions of participants’ artwork  (.jpg, .mov, .wav. etc.)

*Students will receive member's rates for this workshop

JUNE PAK was born in Seoul, South Korea, and now lives in Toronto, Canada. By utilizing the assumed functions of hyphenation, as to both connect and divide two (or more) entities, she investigates different means to articulate visualization of ethnicity. She resists the prescribed ethnic subject’s positioning in the current universalized and institutionalized construction of ethnic work. Her multi-disciplinary works (photo, video, sound, text, installation, performance and writing) have shown around nationally and internationally. She received numerous grants from Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council and Toronto Arts Council for her projects, and was a recipient of the K.M. Hunter Artist Award (Visual Arts) in 2004. She holds a BFA from York University, a MFA from University of Windsor, and a PhD (Practice-based in Visual Arts) from York University. She currently teaches as a sessional lecturer in Visual Studies program at University of Toronto.http://www.junepak.ca/

Gallery 44 acknowledges that it is situated on stolen land. We work and create on the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee, the Anishinaabe, the Wendat and the Mississaugas of the Credit. This land is home to many First Nations, Inuit and Métis and is protected by the Dish with One Spoon wampum agreement—a treaty that extends to Indigenous and non-Indigenous relations and invites us to share the land peacefully through mutual cooperation. Gallery 44 is inspired by the spirit of this agreement and through our work, seeks to share space and build equitable and reciprocal relationships across communities. Read More
