One of the biggest challenges for a photographer is to establish a visual language while navigating through a sea of personal experiences. This workshop will facilitate participants in the development of long term photographic projects. It is intended for artists/photographers interested in projects inspired by their own experiences, as photography can be used as an effective tool to convey what is difficult to articulate. Through this session, Rodriguez will provide helpful tips and talk about the process of photographing diverse people and representing them with dignity.Participants are asked to bring a body of work that is in progress. Please bring a USB with 20 images from one body of work. Through discussion, the group will analyze various approaches to one topic. Rodriguez will also cover the process of editing images for various viewing platforms such as a gallery, a photobook or the web.
Christian Rodriguez (1980) is an Uruguayan photographer. He is director of the international photography festival San Jose Foto (www.sanjosefoto.uy) in San Jose, Uruguay. His personal photographic work focuses on issues related to gender and identity. He began his visual education at "Taller Dellioti", specializing in drawing and painting (1993-1999). He has collaborated with various news agencies such as France Presse, AP, EFE, and Reuters. In 2006, he covered the conflict between Israel-Hezbollah in the southern Lebanon. In 2007, he studied fashion design at the school "Pablo Gimenez" and later that year joined the photography stock Win-initiative (USA). In 2008, he won the "Roberto Villagraz" scholarship and moved to Madrid to study the documentary Masters Program at EFTI, winning the "Premio Futuro" award (2009). In 2011, he was nominated for the Joop Swart Mastarclass award for World Press Photo. His work has been published in international publications such as The New York Times, El Mundo, Yo Dona, Esquire, La Nación, El País, Página 12, ABC, El Observador, and Lento, among many others. Rodriguez has exhibited his work in Uruguay, Brazil, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, United States, Spain, France, Italy, UK and Cambodia.
