In this classroom based workshop, Gallery 44's Members' Gallery artist-in-residence Nathan Cyprys will teach the basics of astrophotography, illustrating this discussion with historical images as well as those from his current exhibition, Cosmichronos. Participants will be taught methods using an analogue SLR camera, tripod and equatorial mount (available on loan from the RASC). By the end of the workshop, participants will be familiar with a variety of astronomical resources necessary for planning a night of shooting, and an understanding of what's needed to produce a well exposed negative with pinpoint stars.
It is recommended students dress warmly since part of the class will take place outdoors if skies are clear.
In order to benefit from this workshop participants should already possess a basic understanding of the manual functions of their SLR camera.
