Continuing thematic explorations at the intersection of performance, sound and image-based practices, Gallery 44 and A Space Gallery will mount the first comprehensive survey of over two decades of photographs, videos, films, installations and improvisations by Mani Mazinani. The expansive exhibition marks the first collaboration between our neighbouring artist-run centres in nearly a decade, and will be augmented by multi-media public programs, including screenings and musical performances, and a limited edition publication.
Mani Mazinani (b.1984, Tehran) is a Toronto-based artist making installation, video, film, sculpture, photographs, multiples, sound and music. His practice evolved from an early interest in sound recording, now working with the process of translating thoughts into recordings in various media. This multi-sensory practice investigates scale and perception, often combining subject matter and medium. Mazinani is currently researching origins of ancient thought, perceptual limitations of humans and improvisation and was the 2026 Connected Minds artist-in-residence at York University. Past exhibition and performance history includes Evergreen Brick Works (2024), MOCA Toronto (2024), Tate Modern (2019), The Bentway, Toronto (2018), Tehran International Electronic Music Festival (2017), SIP Culture Centre, Suzhou (2016).
