OUTREACH, G44’s award-winning education program, uses photography as a medium and catalyst for creative self-expression. This program embodies our commitment to engaging Toronto’s youth in the arts, by democratizing photography and supporting a new generation of image-makers and visual thinkers.
The 2015 exhibition Witness celebrates the creative accomplishments of the participating youth. Featuring artwork created by youth from:
Nia Centre for the Arts
Eva’s Phoenix
Toronto Council Fire Native Cultural Centre
PEACH
UrbanArts
In addition to the exhibition, youth from each organization worked together to produce a stop-motion animation project. This video will be showing throughout the OUTREACH exhibition.
Every year, Gallery 44 awards two participants from our OUTREACH program the David Barker Maltby Award. This award celebrates David Barker Maltby's commitment to education, community activism and documentary photography. Award winners are nominated by instructors and selected by a committee, based on their talent and commitment to continuing with their arts practice. Winners receive a complimentary membership to Gallery 44, and a mentorship with a Gallery 44 member.
