Opening Reception: Friday, June 9, 2023 6:00 – 8:00PM
Amassed over five years through in-person and virtual interviews, I Crossed the Ocean is a collection of stories exploring migration, displacement and diasporic identity from Tamil communities across nine countries. Due to decades of civil war, generations of Tamils left Sri Lanka seeking peace, safety and a chance at a better life. I Crossed the Ocean aims to protect these valuable stories—a testament to resilience—at risk of extinction by cultural erasure.
