Stephen Forsyth's non-representational abstract imagery partially or fully obscures the recognizable world. With camera movements, long exposures, blurred subjects and extreme close-ups his exploration of movement, form, shapes, symmetry textures, structures and colour all serve to enhance his poetic works of art resulting in new, surprising and endless interpretations.
Canadian-born artist Stephen Forsyth works in photography, music, video, film, poetry and choreography. After graduating from McMaster University and studying at the London School of Economics he moved to Italy and became a notable film star and member of the 1960’s Dolce Vita set of actors in Rome. He starred in legendary director Mario Bava's cult classic "Hatchet for the Honeymoon", recently released on Blu-ray.
While in New York his musical production "Step Out of Love" was performed internationally for over 10 consecutive years by the Hubbard Street Dance Company Chicago.
His video "Passages", a unique weave of his piano solos, visuals and choreography made PBS "Alive From Off Center” producer Neil Seiling to comment "Passages is one of the rare pieces that aspires to and pulls off a meeting of the performance world with television, time and space."
Stephen Forsyth photographs are in in the permanent collections of the MOMA, Museum of Modern Art, NY. The George Eastman House International Museum of Photography, Rochester, NY. and the Harvard Film Archives among others.
