Gallery 44's FolioForum, is a free, bi-monthly portfolio review group for members. This program provides members, both emerging and established, with the opportunity to discuss their work in a casual and supportive environment with members and a guest artist, writer, curator or other professional from the Toronto arts community.
The review is run like a group critique: each participant has 20 minutes to share a project and receive feedback from the reviewer and the rest of the group. Before the review you should prepare 5-20 images from single body of work that is nearing completion as well as a few questions to guide discussion.
This program offers a casual means by which to generate discussion and receive constructive feedback about a body of work that is in progress, near completion or at completion. Join us for some brews and reviews!
Printing Party Revival (or PPR) is a free analog printing social for members. Scheduled monthly, members are invited to bring in their old negatives and enjoy a night of printing and socializing with other members.
Safelight is a member-led event in support of Gallery 44 members whose genders are historically underrepresented in photography. This includes women (cis and trans), as well as anyone within the trans and queer communities — including those who are non-binary, genderqueer, intersex, Two-Spirited, among others.
Join other G44 members for a darkroom printing session. Engage in discussion, or work independently. Optionally, bring completed or works-in-progress to share with the group and receive constructive feedback.
Safelight is currently facilitated by Gallery 44 members Zile Liepens and Cece Virani.
Gallery 44 Members occasionally present member-run interactive public art installations and activities like photo booths, cyanotype workshops, Zoom marathons, open studios, gear swap events and more. What happens changes year to year as opportunities and interest shift. If you have an idea for a public facing event, get in touch!
