Bio
Alexandra Majerus (aka Alex, aka Sandy) is a multidisciplinary lens-based artist who works in photography, video, installation and sound. With a half-Caribbean background, her practice frequently examines the Caribbean from the perspective of a transcultural person living in the Toronto. With an on-going exploration of the landscape as a metaphor of history and identity, her work varies from political - disrupting the notion of paradise constructed through tourism - to personal - looking at the shifting understanding of home, migration, family and loss.
Majerus has a IAMD MFA from OCADu and has received OAC and CCA grants. She has exhibited in Ontario, Barbados, the Bahamas, Grenada, Trinidad, Bulgaria, and Paraguay. She is on the Special Events and Fundraising Committee of Gallery 44. She is also the co-founder of Unpack Studio Art Projects & Havana Residency.
