Bio
Ashley Culver (b. 1986) is an artist and writer based in Tkaronto/Toronto. Culver holds an MFA from York University (2015) and a BFA from the University of Victoria (2011). Attention with care runs through her practice manifesting as sculpture, photography, artist books, community and food-related projects. Written work functions as a grounding medium to record ephemeral projects and as a way to release thoughts and research.
Her work is in conversation with domestic space - particularly the kitchen - and desire for connection. Food is often a subject and material.
She is also a butcher and a chef, who has cooked, at various times, in a children’s camp, in fine dining restaurants, and in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. In 2022, Culver was awarded the Artist in the Library grant from the Toronto Arts Council. She has published written work with ReIssue, West End Phoenix, Serviette Magazine, Buffalo Spree among others.
