Bio
David Brandy is an award-winning lens-based artist working in Toronto. His passion as an artist is to capture human-altered landscapes with a sense of “the uncanny” – the psychological experience of something as strangely familiar. He creates his images with a focus on persuading beautiful things to reveal their “strange”, and strange objects to bare their “beauty”. In his ongoing series, “Newer Topographics”, a canvas is created, which emphasizes the strong sense of isolation humankind feels due to the juxtaposition of natural landscape with solitary manmade constructs. Brandy was shortlisted for the 2021 Aesthetica Art Prize. He won an Emerging Artist award at the 2019 Toronto Outdoor Art Fair and was shortlisted for both the 2018 Quest Art and the 2017 Salt Spring National Art Prizes.
