CameraReach is a Gallery 44 initiative in partnership with the Toronto District School Board (TDSB). Every year, the TDSB recommends two middle schools in their district to participate in this unique program. Gallery 44 supports two professional artists in instructing students through a series of hands-on photographic workshops. These workshops are incorporated into the school curriculum and aim to engage students in the world of digital photography, providing them with valuable technical and conceptual skills. The program is organized as a sequential thread in building skills and developing visual literacy through hands-on learning, dialogue and production. The camera is introduced to students as an instrument for image-making, positive self-expression, and as a means of gaining a broader perspective of our ever-expanding visual world. Artist instructors work with students to explore an annual theme which results in an exhibition of the students's artwork at Gallery 44.
