Join us in celebrating Gallery 44's summer exhibitions opening in all four galleries! The reception begins at 6:00PM with the presentation of OUTREACH Awards commencing at 7:30PM.
Almanac, an annual member-run exhibition (formerly 365) opens in the Main Gallery surveying the work of over 120 artists within the membership. An almanac brings to mind seasons, celestial cycles and terrestrial forecasts—an assembly of disparate pieces of information, once seemingly disconnected, converge to bring new patterns to light—presenting observations of the past with anticipation for the future. Each contributing Gallery 44 member chose an image—they are proud of, interested in, working with, or working through; a visual compilation of observations, thoughts, themes, inspirations and curiosities—to represent the past year.
In the Members' Gallery, movements celebrates the creative accomplishments of participating youth from: 2 Spirited People of the 1st Nations, Nia Centre for the Arts, The Remix Project and The 519, in a culminating exhibition from OUTREACH, G44’s award-winning darkroom program for youth throughout the GTA.
In the Vitrines, Midyan Samson debuts Samson and Yirgalem an attempt to look back beyond the roles and responsibilities shaped by migration and honour them as individuals. In doing so, Midyan Samson asks: Who gets to decide whether starting over was worth it—her parents, the government, or those of us who inherited the outcome? Presented in partnership with Shoot for Peace.
In the Production Gallery, Low Res 2025 brings together work from participants in the Low Res Photo Intensive Course, led by Darren Rigo and Camille Rojas.
